The history of vodka production in Estonia dates back two centuries to the year of 1875, when Friedrich Rappuhn, a man from Prussia, set up proper spirit manufacturing facilities. No one knows what it took for him to receive the license from the Tallinn magistrate at the time (a similar application by the Estonian Knighthood submitted five years earlier was harshly declined!)
January 1, 1971 is another important milestone in the history of alcohol production in Estonia - marking the date when the production association Liviko was established from Tallinn Likööri - ja Viinatehas and a number of smaller spirit factories. Liviko is the oldest manufacturer of alcoholic beverages in Estonia, retaining its position as a market leader to this day.
Viru Valge Vodka is one of Liviko’s most successful products and arguably Estonia’s most popular vodka. Distilled from high quality grain spirits and specially processed water.
